INDIANAPOLIS - IUPUI closes out its three-game homestand when it hosts IU-Southeast at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 23, at The Jungle. The Jaguars are 0-2 on the homestand after falling to Wright State on Nov. 12 and Akron on Nov. 17. IUPUI is 19-1 all-time against IU-Southeast.

UP NEXT
·         Following Tuesday’s game, IUPUI will head to Notre Dame, Ind., to compete in the 2010 WBCA Classic.
·         The WBCA Classic is a four-team, round-robin tournament consisting of Notre Dame, Butler, Wake Forest, and IUPUI.
·         IUPUI opens the tournament on Friday, Nov. 26 at 2 p.m., against No. 12 Notre Dame, before taking on Butler on Saturday, Nov. 27 and Wake Forest on Sunday, Nov. 28, at 4 p.m. and Noon, respectively.

LAST TIME OUT ...
·         Kerah Nelson scored a team-high 11 points and dished out a career-high five assists, but the IUPUI women’s basketball team fell to Akron, 70-49, on Wednesday Nov. 17.
·         For the second straight game, the Jaguars struggled from the floor hitting 34.0 percent (18-of-53) of their shots, compared to the Zips connecting on 48.3 percent (28-of-53) of their attempts.
·         Akron outscored IUPUI 36-22 in the paint and converted 23 Jaguar turnovers into 20 points.
·         IUPUI fell behind mid-way through the first half hitting just one field goal over a 10-minute stretch resulting in a 19-5 Zips run that reversed a two-point IUPUI advantage into a 12-point deficit, 24-12, at the under-eight-minute media timeout.
·         Trailing by double figures, IUPUI used a pair of Janna Eichelberger buckets coupled with a Shea Collins three-pointer to go on a 7-1 surge, cutting its deficit to single-digits at 30-21.
·         However, that was as close as the Jaguars got as a 16-6 Akron spurt widened its lead to 55-34 at the mid-way point of the second half.
·         In the final 10 minutes, Nelson scored eight of the Jaguars 15 points and IUPUI matched Akron basket for basket, but the Zips left The Jungle with a 70-49 win.
·         Clara Mitchell posted nine points and eight rebounds in the defeat, while Gretchen Gaskin and Jasmine Horne each pitched in eight points.

ABOUT IU-SOUTHEAST
·         The Grenadiers come into the week with a 3-3 overall record after registering wins over Miami-Middletown and Northwestern Ohio last week.
·         IUS is No. 20 in the NAIA Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Poll.
·         The Grenadiers are led offensively by Ashmere Woods, who is averaging 17.7 ppg over the last three games, highlighted by a 19-point effort in their last game against Northwestern Ohio.

ALL-AROUND GAME
·         Named a preseason second-team all-conference selection prior to the start of the season, Kerah Nelson has not had the start she wanted over IUPUI’s first two games.
·         Nelson was held to nine points in the opener and posted 11 in a loss to Akron on 3-of-15 shooting (20.0 percent).
·         Last season, Nelson shot below 30.0 percent from the floor in three games.
·         When she shot below 30.0 percent, Nelson averaged 7.0 rebounds per game, 1.0 assist per game, and 0.67 steals per game.
·         Despite the poor shooting performance against Akron, Nelson raised the other parts of her game to help the squad.
·         Against the Zips, Nelson pulled down seven rebounds, got her teammates involved by dishing out a career-high five assists, and notched two steals and a block.

POST PRESENCE
·         Clara Mitchell has been steady in the paint for IUPUI in its first two games.
·         Against Wright State and Akron, Mitchell averaged 10.0 points per game, 5.0 rebounds per game, and shot 60.0 percent from the field.
·         Mitchell’s 11 points against Wright State on Nov. 12 was her third double-digit scoring performance of her career.
·         She followed that up with nine points and eight rebounds against Akron on Nov. 17.
·         Mitchell was a presence on the offensive end as four of her eight rebounds were offensive, accounting for more than a third of the team’s offensive rebounds.

TAKING CARE OF THE BALL
·         Turnovers were the Achilles heel for IUPUI during the 2009-10 season.
·         The Jaguars averaged 23.4 turnovers per game last season compared to 17.2 for its opponents and had fewer turnovers than its opponents in just six of 29 games.
·         In the season opener against Wright State on Nov. 12, IUPUI showed an improvement in its ball security turning the ball over 18 times, while forcing the Raiders into 21 turnovers.
·         Only once during the 2009-10 season did the Jaguars force their opponent to more than 20 turnovers while committing fewer than 20 turnovers (Jan. 16, 2010 vs. Centenary).
