ELMHURST, Ill. – The IUPUI women’s basketball team was picked to finish ninth in a preseason poll of Summit League coaches, SID’s, and media, the conference office announced today. Sophomore
Kerah Nelson a 2009-10 honorable-mention all-conference performer, earned preseason second-team all-conference distinction.
Oral Roberts captured 26 of the 30 first-place votes and accumulated 438 points en route to being selected as the favorite to win the 2010-11 Summit League Women’s Basketball Championship. South Dakota State picked up the other four first-place votes and was tabbed second with 393 points after making consecutive trips to the NCAA Tournament.
Oakland, IPFW, and North Dakota State round out the preseason Top 5, followed by UMKC, Southern Utah and Western Illinois, who each received 162 points to tie for seventh, IUPUI, and Centenary, respectively.
As a freshman, Nelson led the Jaguars in scoring and rebounding last year, averaging 13.7 points per game and 5.7 rebounds per game, becoming the first freshman to lead IUPUI in scoring since Kelli Werling pulled the feat in the 1996-97 campaign.

Austin Parkinson, the Jaguars welcome eight newcomers to the 2010-11 squad and play their lone exhibition at home on Monday, Nov. 8, against Indiana Tech at 7 p.m. Just four days later on Friday, Nov. 12, IUPUI hosts its season-opener at the Jungle against Wright State at 7 p.m.
