ROCHESTER, Mich. -- The IUPUI women's basketball team fell into an early hole against Oakland in their return to Summit League play and never got out, dropping their seventh straight game, 75-40, at the O'Rena on Saturday afternoon.

IUPUI (1-13, 0-3 Summit) went without a field goal for the first 5:36 of the contest, falling behind 8-0 before Janna Eichelberger knocked down a three-pointer from the wing to get the Jaguars going offensively.  Briannica Tye would follow with a fast-break layup to bring IUPUI within three points, but it was the closest the Jags would get in the game.

Turnovers and cold shooting hampered IUPUI throughout, as the Jaguars finished the first half with 19 turnovers and just seven field goals, fueling Oakland (4-9, 1-1 Summit) during the first 20 minutes of play.

For the game, IUPUI finished with 34 turnovers, their second-highest total of the 2009-10 season and second consecutive game with at least 30 turnovers.  Over their last three games, the Jaguars are averaging 30 turnovers per game, compared to just 6.7 assists.

Trailing by three, 17-14, with just under 10 minutes left in the first half, the Jaguars did not hit another shot the remainder of the half after a Tye jumper at the 8:35 mark, getting their final six points from the free-throw line.  By the time the Jaguars went into the locker room at the half, the Grizzlies had stretched to lead to 17, at 39-22, finishing the half on a 19-6 run.

The run was helped in part by 19 first-half IUPUI turnovers, which led to 17 Oakland points.

While the Jaguars were able to cut down on their turnovers in the second half, they still struggled to generate their offense, scoring 18 points for the half and having just one assist to 15 turnovers in the final 20 minutes of play.  Of the 11 Jaguars to see court time in the game, just two - Elizabeth Mercer and Alexis Taylor - finished without a turnover.

Kerah Nelson led the Jaguars in scoring with 15 points on 4-for-12 shooting, offsetting her shooting woes with a perfect 7-for-7 effort from the charity stripe.  Tye was the other Jaguar in double figures, finishing with 11 points and four steals.  Gretchen Gaskin had a career-high nine points for IUPUI.

Bethany Watterworth dominated the interior, going 9-for-14 from the floor and leading all scorers with 24 points.  Three other Oakland players - Melissa Jeltema, Stacey Farrell and Hanna Reising - each had 10 points, as the Grizzlies shot 44.8 percent from the floor.

The Jaguars will wrap up their first Summit League road trip of the season when they head south on I-69 from Detroit to Fort Wayne, to meet in-state rival IPFW on Monday.  Tip-off from the Hilliard Gates Sports Center is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET and can be heard on IUPUIJags.com with Scott Taylor on the call.
