COLUMBUS, Ohio - For over 80 minutes, the IUPUI men's soccer team frustrated the nation's 24th ranked squad, keeping Ohio State off the scoreboard at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. However, the host Buckeyes took advantage of a penalty kick opportunity with just 9:25 left in regulation to seal a 1-0 victory and remain undefeated at 4-0-3 on the year.

It marked the third time in the past four games that the Jaguars have allowed a penalty kick after the 80th minute, two of which have resulted in game-winners for the opposition.

"Tonight, the boys played well," IUPUI Head Coach Steve Franklin said. "(Ohio State's) in the top 25 for a reason. They've got a very strong, well balanced team.

"It was an excellent job by Keever. He made three of four quality saves from point blank range to keep us in the match."

On Wednesday, the late whistle allowed OSU's Doug Verkoff a PK opportunity in which he beat sophomore goalkeeper Tyler Keever for his third goal of the season. Ohio State dominated the run of play, outshooting IUPUI 34-6 overall and 10-3 on goal. The Buckeyes also had 11 corner kicks while holding the IUPUI (1-5-2) without.

However, IUPUI still had chances.

Junior Nate Ohmer had a shot hit off the post in the game's 23rd minute and less than four minutes later, sophomore Perez Agaba forced OSU goalkeeper Matt Lampson to make his first of three saves.

In the second half, both Mason Cassady and Eric Weigman managed shots on goal, but were unable to beat Lampson to break the ice. Keever weathered an offensive onslaught and saw the hosts hit a post and a crossbar in the second half before finally breaking through.

Andrew Magill attempted 10 shots for the victors and Konrad Warzycha tried nine. No IUPUI player managed more than one attempt as the Jags were outshot for just the fourth time this season.

Keever made nine stops, upping his per game average to 5.3.

Franklin's squad will now open Summit League play on Saturday night when it hosts UMKC at Kuntz Stadium at 7:00 p.m.. That match will be preceded by an Indiana Youth Soccer 'Stars' Clinic, focused on passing. The camp will run from 6:00-6:45 and kids participating in the clinic will be admitted for free and their accompanying adult(s) will only be charged $2.
