FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- Looking to qualify for their third straight Summit League Tournament, the IUPUI men's tennis team moved one step closer to clinching a tournament berth, defeating South Dakota State, 5-2, Thursday morning at the Swinney Park Tennis Courts.

IUPUI (3-14, 2-2 Summit) dominated the Jackrabbits at the top of the roster, winning at Nos. 1, 2 and 3 singles to clinch the match.  In doubles, the Jaguars took wins at Nos. 1 and 2 to take an early 1-0 lead.

The freshman duo Daniel Klingenberg and Bren Vasalakis opened the match with a victory at No. 1 doubles, downing Corey Paluch and Michael Engdahl, 8-3.  Taylor Tunis and Jorge Yunes wrapped up the early advantage for the Jaguars with an 8-5 win at No. 2.

In singles, Vasalakis continued to roll, sweeping Alex Lauseng, 6-2, 6-0.  Yunes did likewise at No. 5, defeating Evan Sims, 6-2, 6-4. 

Both Klingenberg and Gregory Sosa were made to work, but emerged with victories for IUPUI.  Klingenberg outlasted Engdahl in a lenghty first set tie-break, winning the break 13-11 to wrap up the first set.  He broke Engdahl in the second set and held on for a 6-4 victory.

Sosa cruised to 6-3 win in the opening set versu Paluch. but dropped the second, 4-6.  In the decisive third set, Sosa picked up a break and held on, defeating Paluch, 7-5.

Tunis fell in three sets, 5-7, 6-2, 3-6, while Jesus Daiz lost, 3-6, 4-6, at No. 6.

The Jaguars will face Western Illinois in a key match Friday at 1 p.m. ET.  On Saturday, the Jaguars will wrap up the regular season with a match versu IPFW at 1 p.m.
