DAYTON, Ohio -- The IUPUI men's tennis team picked up their first win of the spring season Friday night at Dayton, 4-3, at the University of Dayton Tennis Courts, building momentum for the upcoming Summit League slate of matches. 

IUPUI (2-11) split the six singles matches after taking two of three doubles matches to pick up the victory.  Jorge Yunes and Taylor Tunis got the Jaguars off on the right foot, winning at No. 2 doubles, 8-4.  At No. 1, Daniel Klingenberg and Bren Vasalakis wrapped up the doubles point for the Jags with an 8-5 win.

Needing to win three of the six singles matches to tally the victory, Gregory Sosa, The Summit League's Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week, moved back to No. 1 singles, where he swept Dayton's Michael Rohana, 6-4, 7-5.

While Klingenberg dropped his match at No. 2, both Vasalakis and Tunis rallied to win their matches and help the Jaguars.  Playing at No. 3, Vasalakis won his first set, 6-3, before losing at love in the second.  In the decisive third set, Vasalakis won, 6-4, to move IUPUI within a single win of victory.

Initially, it did not appear that Tunis would win at No. 4, as he lost his opening set, 2-6.  However, he rallied for a 6-4 win in the second, before winning 6-4 in the third to clinch the match.

IUPUI will venture to Carbondale, Ill., on Sunday, March 22, where they will take on Southern Illinois University.  The matches are scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. CT.
