INDIANAPOLIS -- Looking to close their home slate with their eighth win in The Jungle, the IUPUI women's basketball team will host IPFW Monday night. Tip-off from The Jungle is scheduled for 7 p.m., and Greg Rakestraw and WISH-TV sports anchor Jeane Coakley will have the call of the game on XL 950-AM.
IUPUI (14-13, 9-7 Summit) is looking to pick up their 10th Summit League victory with a win over IPFW (6-20, 5-10 Summit); a win on Monday would mark the second straight season in which the Jaguars had at least 10 conference victories.
Seniors
Jernisha Cann and
Brykeesha Tate will be playing their final game in The Jungle; when she plays on Monday, Tate will become IUPUI's all-time leader in games played. Tate has the most assists in IUPUI's Division I history, while Cann is already IUPUI's career leader in rebounds and steals.
Cann is showing signs of shaking off her injuries from last month, posting double-doubles in consecutive games. Against Oakland, the Kansas City, Mo.-native posted a team-leading 16 points and game-high 13 rebounds, following up on a 13-point, 13-rebound performance at Centenary a week ago.
After struggling for much of the 2008-09 season, IPFW is showing signs of finding a groove, having won three of their last four games. On Saturday, the Mastodons won at Western Illinois, 78-61, as Chelsea Jackson came off the bench to score a career-high 27 points.
IPFW is currently in a three-way tie for seventh place in The Summit League with three games remaining; the Jaguars sit in fourth in the conference standings with two contests to play. IUPUI is one game behind North Dakota State for third in The Summit.
Fans can follow the game via IUPUI Live!, where Scott McCauley will have the call of the action. Rakestraw and Coakley will take to the airwaves beginning with the Ron Hunter Show at 6:30 p.m., and live stats will be available during the game as well.
