COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The IUPUI women's basketball team will look for not only their first win of the 2009-10 season, but a history-making win for their program when they meet #3 Ohio State in the first round of the Buckeye Classic on Saturday afternoon. Tip-off from St. John Arena is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET, and Scott Taylor will have the call of the game on IUPUIJags.com.
IUPUI (0-4) played arguably their best 20 minutes of basketball in the first half of their 73-57 loss to Cornell on Tuesday, playing the Big Red even before struggling down the stretch. The Jaguars will need a complete effort for 40 minutes if they are to hang with Ohio State (6-0), who have won their first six games by an average of 25.3 points per game.
The Buckeyes have not played a game outside of Columbus this season, but have put together an impressive resume, claiming the championship in the Preseason WNIT. All five Ohio State starters are averaging 10 or more points per game, led by Preseason All-American Jantel Lavender; the 6-foot-4 center is averaging 24.8 points and 9.2 rebounds per game to pace the Buckeyes.
Ohio State is the second Big Ten team the Jaguars will face in 2009; IUPUI dropped a 75-52 contest at Indiana on Nov. 15.
