INDIANAPOLIS -- The IUPUI women's basketball team will look to ring in 2009 by snapping a two-game losing skid when they take on Southern Utah Saturday night at The Jungle.  Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.  IUPUI senior Jernisha Cann stands five rebounds shy of becoming the first 1,000-point, 1,000-rebound performer in IUPUI basketball history.

IUPUI (6-6, 1-0 Summit) has not played in The Jungle in 28 days, dating back to a 67-38 win over Western Illinois on Dec. 6, 2008.  Since then, the Jaguars went 1-3, picking up a win over Virginia Tech but falling at Cincinnati, versus Jacksonville and at Kentucky.

For the Jaguars, Cann has been their go-to player; the Kansas City, Mo.-native has tallied 11 straight double-doubles, which is tied for the 14th-longest streak in NCAA Division I history.  Her 18.0 points and 11.5 rebounds per game lead all Summit League players.

Should Cann grab five rebounds today to join the 1,000-1,000 club, she would be the third player in Summit League history to achieve the feat, joining Delores Jones, who starred at Northeastern Illinois from 1994-98, and Elisha Turek, who played for Oral Roberts from 2003-07.

Southern Utah (5-7, 1-1 Summit) is still searching for their first win outside the Beehive State.  The Thunderbirds have started their Summit League campaign with a victory over Oakland and a loss to IPFW in early December.

The T'birds are led by senior Anne Westwood-Higbee, who is posting 10.2 points per game.

The Jaguars are 10-12 all-time versus Southern Utah, but have won the last three meetings in The Jungle.
