ROCHESTER, Mich. -- Seeking to extend their season-long three game winning streak, the IUPUI women's basketball team will take on Oakland on Monday. Tip-off from the Athletics Center O'Rena is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.
IUPUI (10-9, 5-3 Summit) trails Oakland (15-4, 7-1 Summit) by two games for second place in The Summit League standings. Both teams come in riding winning streaks - the Jaguars at three, while the Grizzlies have won seven in a row.
The Jags picked up their second true road win of the season on Saturday, downing IPFW, 70-61, at the Gates Sports Center on the strength of seven three-pointers. The seven long-range baskets matched IUPUI's season high, while their 7-for-14 performance was a season best.
Despite neither
Jernisha Cann nor
Julia Whitted finishing with 10 or more points for the first time in over a year, the Jaguars placed four players into double figures, led by
Brykeesha Tate, who had 17 points, one shy of her career high.
Janna Eichelberger added 13, while
Nicole James scored 12 - all in the second half.
Brittany Ransom chipped in 10.
Oakland was the last team to hold Cann and Whitted under 10 points in the same game, limiting Cann to 8 points and Whitted to 6 in their Mid-Continent Conference Tournament semifinal victory on March 5, 2007.
The Grizzlies have not lost in 2009, rattling off six straight Summit League victories. Summit League Preseason Player of the Year Jessica Pike leads Oakland in scoring, averaging 15.4 points per game. Pike is knocking down 42.1-percent of her three-point field goals and 90.4-percent of her free-throw attempts.
All time, IUPUI is 11-16 against Oakland, as the teams split their meetings last season. At The Jungle on Jan. 28, 2008, the Jaguars rallied for a 64-61 win, scoring the final five points of the game. The Grizzlies evened the season series with a 66-62 victory at the O'Rena a month later.
