INDIANAPOLIS -- The IUPUI men's tennis team dropped a tough 5-2 decision to local rival Butler University Friday night at the Indianapolis Tennis Center. Both
Gabriel Garcia and
Jorge Yunes took singles matches, but could not carry the Jaguars over the Bulldogs.
Despite a win at No. 3 doubles from Yunes and
Blake Powers, the Jags could not win at either No. 1 or No. 2 doubles, as Butler took the early point.
In singles play, both Garcia and Yunes rallied to win their matches. Garcia dropped his first set, 1-6, before rallying for a 7-6 win in the second. In the super tie-break, Garcia cruised past his opponent, 10-5.
Yunes won his opening set, 6-4, but fell, 3-6, in the second. The freshman dug deep to take the super tie-break, 10-8.
The Jaguars will be back in action at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 25, when they host Vincennes University. The match will be hosted at the Indianapolis Tennis Center.
