TULSA, Okla. -- Needing one more win to secure the program's first NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament bid, the IUPUI women's basketball team will take on Oral Roberts Tuesday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. CDT. IUPUI (17-15, 11-7 Summit) advanced to the championship game with a 54-42 win over UMKC on Monday afternoon.
Julia Whitted put the Jaguars on her back in the contest, finishing with 24 points, a career-high 16 rebounds and a Summit League Tournament record 8 blocked shots.
For the second consecutive game, the Jaguars held their opponent to under 25 percent shooting, limiting UMKC to 13-of-55 shooting. In their two tournament wins, IUPUI has held their opposition to 26-of-107 shooting from the floor, a 24.3 percent mark.
In two wins against Oral Roberts (18-13, 10-8 Summit) earlier this season, Whitted and
Jernisha Cann combined to post three double-doubles. In a 68-49 win at ORU on Jan. 21, Cann had 18 points and 14 rebounds, while Whitted had 8 points and 12 boards.
On Feb. 16, Whitted and Cann helped the Jags rally from a 66-60 deficit in the final 2:09 for a 69-66 win. Whitted finished with 26 points and 14 boards, while Cann had 21 points and a season-high 17 rebounds.
Oral Roberts has been sharp on both ends of the court in The Summit League Tournament, defeating IPFW, 82-67, and No.1 seed Oakland, 82-67. The Golden Grizzlies have used a balanced attack to reach the finals, blitzing the competition with an average of 43.5 points per game in the first half.
