INDIANAPOLIS -- The IUPUI men's tennis team picked up their first win of 2008 Sunday afternoon, rebounding to sweep the University of Indianapolis, 7-0, at the Indianapolis Tennis Center.
Gregory Sosa continued his strong early-season play, winning at No. 1 singles for the first time in his career. The sophomore defeated Jan Stastny, 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (4) to pick up an early singles point for the Jaguars, who took the doubles point after
Blake Powers and
Jesus Diaz won a crucial match at No. 3.
Despite dropping the No. 1 doubles match, IUPUI (1-4) took No.2 when
Jorge Yunes and #E.J. Dechow# won 8-3, setting up Powers and Diaz to clinch the first point of the matches.
In singles, the Jags cruised to the win, with Garcia dropping down and winning at No. 2 in straight sets. Dechow, Yunes and
Josh Kutch all won in straight sets as well, with Powers using a super tie-break to win at No. 5.
The men's team will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 9, taking on the University of Toledo in Toledo, Ohio.
