INDIANAPOLIS -- Looking to capture any early lead in The Summit League standings, the IUPUI women's basketball team will open conference play against Western Illinois on Saturday.  Tip-off from The Jungle is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.

IUPUI (4-3, 0-0 Summit) is coming off a third-place finish in the Robert Morris Thanksgiving Tournament, having fallen to Wright State, 59-57, before cruising past Howard, 61-45.  For the tournament, Jernisha Cann averaged 20.5 points and 11.5 rebounds, earning an all-tournament team selection.

Cann's three double-doubles last week helped her earn the her second Summit League Player of the Week award of the season.  The three double-doubles extended her double-double streak to six contests, setting a new school record.  The senior sits 61 rebounds shy of becoming the first 1,000-point, 1,000-rebound performer in IUPUI history.

Julia Whitted is averaging 11.7 points and 7.9 rebounds per contest, while Nicole James is posting 9.3 points and 4.9 boards per game.

Western Illinois (2-5, 0-0 Summit) enters Saturday's game as losers of five of their last six contests, including an 80-49 defeat to Illinois State on Wednesday.  The Westerwinds are led by Amanda Walker, who is averaging 11.7 points per game.

IUPUI is just 6-18 against Western Illinois and 6-17 since joining The Summit League; however, the Jaguars have taken three of the past four meetings, including the last two contests at The Jungle.

Reserved seats are available for just $10, while fans who cannot make the game can follow the contest via live stats and live video by clicking on the above links.  The video feed will also be available via SummitTV at TheSummitLeague.org.
