SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, Texas -- Seeking the first tournament title in the school's Division I history, the IUPUI women's basketball team will take on Jacksonville University for the South Padre Island Shootout championship. Tip-off from the South Padre Island Convention Center is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT.
IUPUI (6-4) made history with their first round win over Virginia Tech, beating an Atlantic Coast Conference member for the first time in school history. The Jaguars put four players into double figures in the win, led by
Jernisha Cann, who had 22 points and 10 rebounds to lead all players.
Kiara Butler came off the bench to spark the Jaguars with 13 points, eight of them in the first half.
In IUPUI's Division I history, the Jags have never won a tournament title, whether in the regular or postseason. The Jaguars and Jacksonville (4-5) have never met, but IUPUI is 3-1 all-time versus Atlantic Sun Conference members.
The Dolphins defeated SMU, 67-65, in the tournament's other semifinal.
