INDIANAPOLIS -- After starting the 2008-09 campaign with a split against Northern Illinois and No. 23 Purdue, the IUPUI women's basketball team will host IU-Southeast in their home opener. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. at The Jungle.
IUPUI (1-1) is led by senior
Jernisha Cann, who picked up Summit League Player of the Week honors after averaging a double-double with 20.0 points and 10.5 rebounds in the Jags' two games. Cann also broke the IUPUI career rebounding mark of 874, set by Tiffany Kyser. Cann's 13 boards at Purdue gave her 878 for her career.
The Jaguars won their season opener at Northern Illinois, downing the Huskies, 72-58. Cann led all players with a career-high 23 points, while freshman
Janna Eichelberger added 15, the most by an IUPUI freshman in their debut in six years.
At No. 23 Purdue, IUPUI struggled, hitting just 26 percent of their shots in the 80-44 loss.
IUPUI will look to rebound against IU-Southeast (3-2), who have sandwiched a three-game winning streak between two losses.
