INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI men's soccer team's offense struggled to warm up as the Jaguars were shutout by Wright State at Michael A. Carroll Stadium on a frigid Tuesday evening. WSU's Aaron Denney scored the game-winner less than seven minutes into the match and the Raiders limited IUPUI to just 11 shots on the night.

The loss dropped IUPUI to 7-7-2 on the season while Wright State improved to 4-12-1. The Jaguars came into play ranked No. 10 in the Midwest Region, according to the most recent NSCAA/adidas regional polls.

Denney accounted for the match's only offense when he was on the scoring end of a Joe Flach throw-in. Denney drilled a left-footed strike through traffic from just beyond the 18-yard box, beating IUPUI freshman goalkeeper Tyler Keever after Flach's throw sailed deep into the offensive zone. Keever and the IUPUI bench pleaded for a hand ball to be called, to no avail.

Both teams looked for quick counter attacks throughout the first half and the Jaguars nearly tied the score in the 27th minute. Senior Cameron Williams bent a near perfect corner kick just outside the six-yard box and sophomore Derek Craig climbed the ladder to put a header on frame, but hit WSU goalkeeper Matt Koewler right in the hands.

Seconds later, Williams intercepted a pass inside the near sideline and worked his way deep into scoring range, but hit his shot wide of the post.

The Jaguars had two golden scoring chances on restarts in the second half, but were unable to find the back of the net. In the 60th minute, the Jaguars were awarded an indirect kick just outside the 18-yard box when Koewler was carded for a delay of game. Freshman Yogi Snider tapped the ball to Eric Weigman, but the junior forward had his drive snared by the WSU goalkeeper.

In the 80th minute, the Jags had a direct free kick at the top of the 18, but freshman Javier Portillo hit his drive high of the crossbar.

WSU outshot IUPUI 17-11 as just three of the Jaguars tries were on frame. Koewler made three saves and Keever made five stops before leaving the field in the 52nd minute due to injury. Senior Francisco Maia played well off the bench, recording four stops in nearly 39 minutes work.

Weigman led the IUPUI attack with three shot attempts.

IUPUI returns to action on Saturday when it takes on Oral Roberts in Tulsa at 1:00 p.m..
