IUPUI senior libero Chelsea Bastin has been chosen the IUPUI Female Student-Athlete of the Month for the month of September. Bastin led IUPUI's defense in the first month of the year, helping the Jaguars go 9-6 and take the nation's lead in digging.
Bastin went over the 1,000-dig mark for her career on Sept. 12 at the InnTowner Invitational at the University of Wisconsin. Bastin currently has 1,154 career digs.
The psychology major tallied 251 digs during the month, including a career-high 33 digs in IUPUI's 3-2 win over Butler on Sept. 16. The effort helped the Jags move to 3-0 versus in-state opponents (Indiana State, Ball State).
Earlier in the month, Bastin was named The Summit League Defensive Player of the Week after leading the Jaguars to a runner-up finish at the Tiger Invitational, hosted by the University of Memphis. Bastin was selected to the All-Tournament Team after finishing with a team-high 55 digs over the four matches, averaging 3.67 digs in 15 sets of play. Bastin had double-digit dig efforts in each of IUPUI’s matches.
In 13 of the 15 matches in the month, Bastin went over 10 digs and recorded 20 or more digs on six different occasions.
Nationally, Bastin ranks 59th in digs with 4.4 per set through Sept. 28. Her efforts have helped the Jaguars to a 1st-place ranking in the country with 18.95 digs per set.
