IUPUI junior track athlete Spencer Burgin has been named the department's Male Athlete of the Month for May 2014. Burgin earned All-Summit League honors with a third-place finish in the 10,000m race at The Summit League Outdoor Championships to cap the 2013-14 season.
Burgin opened the month with a 15:25.02 5,000m effort at the Stan Lyons Invitational on May 3, placing fourth in his heat and tenth overall. Just less than two weeks later, the Atlanta, Ind.-native finished third in the 10K, crossing in a time of 31:04.80 to easily secure a top-3 finish. The 10K time set a new personal standard and was the second-best by an IUPUI runner this season.
In the classroom, Burgin capped another impressive semester with a 3.52 grade point average, earning a spot on the IUPUI Academic Advisor's List.
