HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. - The IU Indianapolis women's golf team got standout efforts from freshman
Olivia Aronhalt and senior
Yanah Rolston on day one of the Horizon League Championships on El Campeon at Mission Resort on Saturday (Apr. 25). Aronhalt is tied for second overall after a 2-over 75 on Saturday and Rolston is tied for seventh at 3-over 76.
The Jaguars posted a team score of 324 and are tied for sixth among the seven-team field. Play was interrupted for nearly an hour near the midpoint of the round due to rain and lightning in the area.
Aronhalt started hot, quickly getting to 2-under with birdies on two of her first three holes. She made four birdies on her first nine holes, playing them to 1-under. Ultimately, she finished her round with five birdies after dialing up her fifth of the round on the par-5, No. 1 to start her second nine. Rolston was even through 16 with a pair of birdies before ultimately closing at 76.
Rolston finished the round tied for fourth with 12 pars while Aronhalt's five birdies topped the field.
The remainder of the lineup struggled as
Li (Sherry) Xia shot 13-over 86 and sophomore
Lexi Stuart was countable at 87. Sophomore
Cassidy Ayres rounded out the group at 88.
Oakland leads the team standings at 309 and Youngstown State is second at 313. Northern Kentucky's Eva Maley is atop the leaderboard at 1-under 72 and was the lone player to break par in round one.
The Jaguars return to action on Sunday, teeing off at 7:30 a.m.
