RICHMOND, Ky. – IU Indy wrapped up the opening day of the EKU Invitational on Thursday with a pair of losses, falling to host Eastern Kentucky, 12-1 in five innings, before dropping a 13-0 decision to Miami (Ohio) later in the afternoon at Gertrude Hood Field.
The Jaguars struck first in the top of the opening inning against EKU.
Adeline Blackwell worked a leadoff walk, stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error before
Kennedy Cowan drove her in with an RBI double to give IU Indy an early 1-0 lead.
Eastern Kentucky responded quickly, plating three runs in the bottom of the first and adding five more in the second to build an 8-1 advantage.
The Colonels used a combination of timely hitting and power, finishing with 10 hits and five home runs in the game.
Cowan led the Jaguars offensively with a double and the team's lone RBI, while Blackwell added a stolen base as IU Indy totaled three hits in the contest.

In the afternoon matchup, Miami (Ohio) jumped out early and never looked back, scoring one run in the first and three in the second on its way to a 13-0 win.
The RedHawks broke the game open with a seven-run seventh inning and finished with 18 hits.
IU Indy was limited to two hits in the game, coming from Blackwell and
Tori Candler.
Alexa Holman made the start in the circle, tossing 6.1 innings, while
Kaylen Garland closed out the final two-thirds of an inning.
The Jaguars (3-16) will look to bounce back as they continue play at the EKU Invitational on Friday with a single game against Miami (Ohio).
