RICHMOND, Ky. – IU Indy jumped out to an early lead but couldn't hold off Miami (Ohio) on Friday evening, falling 6-5 at Gertrude Hood Field.
The Jaguars (3-17) plated runs in each of the first three innings and built a 5-2 advantage before the RedHawks rallied late to secure the win.
IU Indy struck first in the opening frame when
Adeline Blackwell singled, stole second and advanced to third on an error before
Molly Kable drove her in with a double to left center. Miami answered with a run of its own in the bottom half to even the score at 1-1.
The Jaguars regained control in the second inning. After
Kinsey Pfeiffer was hit by a pitch,
Kalilah Dela Cruz came on to pinch run and later stole home to put IU Indy ahead. Kable added an RBI single later in the inning to extend the lead to 3-1.
IU Indy tacked on two more runs in the third without recording a hit. Pfeiffer was again hit by a pitch and
Reese Rosenbaum and
Mae Munson drew walks to load the bases. Blackwell and
