TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Members of the IU Indianapolis women's track team went to Indiana State for the ISU Open on Saturday (Feb. 21), chasing fast times to improve seeding in the upcoming Horizon League Indoor Championships.
Senior
Julie Smith led the way with a personal best effort in the 3,000m event, clocking a time of 10:12.33 to place second overall. In doing so, she shed five seconds off her prior best and seven seconds off her season best. Behind her, sophomore
Ella Colclesser turned in a fourth-place time of 10:19.46, lowering her prior best by 12 seconds.
Earlier in the day, senior
Carina Alanis turned in a time of 5:21.33 in the mile, obliterating her prior best by 16 seconds. Freshman
Riley Flynn rounded out the two entries with a time of 5:33.63.
The Jags will wrap up the indoor slate at the Horizon League Championships in Youngstown, Ohio, on Feb. 28 and Mar. 1.
