INDIANAPOLIS - IU Indianapolis senior women's track and field standout
Wini Barnett keyed the Jaguars efforts on Saturday (Feb. 14) on the final day of the Heartland Invitational inside the Indiana Farm Bureau Fall Creek Pavilion. Barnett won her race of the 800m event and shed two seconds off her previous best to highlight the squad's efforts.
She was one of six Jaguars to register new personal bests on Saturday.
In the mile, freshman
Riley Flynn spun a new personal best time of 5:19.75 while fellow rookie
AnnMarie Gibson ran a time of 5:34.86 on the heels of an impressive 3K race the night prior. In the 200m event, freshman
Sarah Madi-Bouabre posted a personal best time of 25.71 seconds while
Pa'Shence Purnell finished at 27.30.
Barnett ran a time of 2:14.79 in her heat of the 800m event, taking the lead with 400m to go and pulling away from there. Freshman
Jenna Twedt ran a personal record time of 2:18.18 to shed three seconds off her prior best and
Hannah Robbins finished at 2:23.52.
Three Jaguars took to the track for the 5,000m event with all three registering new personal bests. Senior
Carina Alanis finished at 18:35.47 with freshman
Kaylynn Bedel just on her heels at 18:36.88. Fellow freshman
Emily Bruns crossed at 19:16.45.
The day concluded with the Jaguars 4x400 relay team just missing a new school record by finishing at 3:56.87. The group of
Jahzara McAlister,
Skylar Ferry,
Sophia Palmer and Barnett closed just more than a second off the current mark.
Earlier in the day, senior
Reese McCuan was the lone Jaguar entrant in the triple jump with a best mark of 11.17m (36' 7.75'').
The Jaguars will next turn attention to the Horizon League Indoor Championships in Youngstown, Ohio, on Feb. 28 and Mar. 1.
