JAGS CONCLUDE HORIZON LEAGUE INDIVIDUAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

The women’s tennis team will now prepare for the ITA Regionals

Box Score YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The IU Indy women's tennis team competed this past weekend at the Horizon League Individual Championship hosted by Youngstown State. Sara Jankovic, Chloe Bailey, Kally Kadzinski, Hanan Awale, Calli Sokolowski, Grace Lampman and Bella Duncan represented the Jags in singles play.
 
Jankovic fell in the opening round of 32 against Oakland's Emilia Jarvinen in two sets (7-6, 6-0). She won against Milwaukee's Emilia Durska in the back draw, then won against Oakland's Edie Hammond in two sets (6-1, 6-2). In the consolation round, she won against Youngstown's Diane Piranda in two sets (6-1, 6-1).
 
Bailey won her opening round of 32 against Youngstown State's Line Greyling in two sets (6-4, 6-2). She then fell in the second round against Oakland's Oliwia Klimas in two sets (6-3, 6-4).
 
Kadzinski won her opening round of 32 against Cleveland State's Leah Geisz in three sets (6-3, 7-5, 7-5). She then fell in the second round against Youngstown State's Yoana Dudova in three sets (7-5,7-6, 6-0).
 
Awale fell to Milwaukee's Nel Van Hout in two sets (6-0, 6-3) in the opening round. She also fell in the back draw against Oakland's Tara Montreuil in a third tie braker set (6-4, 6-4, 10-7). She then fell in the consolation bracket to Youngstown State's Greyling (6-1, 6-2). She then won her last singles match against Milwaukee's Honoka Yamashita (6-1, 6-1).
 
Sokolowski fell in the opening round of 32 against Cleveland State's Laura Tapia Gonzalez in two sets (6-4, 6-4). In the back draw she won the first round against Milwaukee's Honoka Yamashita in two sets (6-2, 6-0). She then had to withdraw from the match against Youngstown State's Yeseniia Ovcharova due to injury (6-1).
 
Lampman fell in the opening round of 32 against Oakland's Martyna Piechowicz in two sets (6-2, 6-3). She also fell in the back draw against Cleveland State's Sofia Sergieva in two sets (6-4, 6-1). She fell in the consolation round against Youngstown State's Diane Piranda in two sets (6-3, 6-0).
 
Duncan fell in the consolation round against Cleveland State's Jenna Redmile in two sets (6-1, 6-1). She also fell against the Vikings' Leah Geisz in three sets (6-3, 6-4, 10-6). She fell in her last singles match against Youngstown State's Sarah Partida Garcia in three sets (6-1, 6-2, 10-7).
 
In doubles, pairs representing the Jags were Sarah Jankovic and Grace Lampman, Hanan Awale and Bella Duncan, and Kally Kadzinski and Chloe Bailey.
 
Jonkovic and Lampman fell in the opening round of 16 against Cleveland State's Laura Tapia Conzalez and Melliz Petkova (8-5). They won in round one of the consolation bracket after Oakland's Nisa Bulut and Charlotte Holmes withdrew due to injury.
 
Awale and Duncan fell in the opening round of 16 against Oakland's Emilia Jarvinen and Edie Hammond (8-4). They also fell in the consolation bracket against Cleveland State's Jenna Redmile and Marta Rodriguez Machado (6-2).
 
Kadzinski and Bailey won their opening round of 16 against Milwaukee's Nikola Nikolajeva and Honoka Yamashita (8-4). The pair withdrew from their doubles match against Youngstown State's Line Greyling and Yeseniia Ovcharova due to injury.
 
The Jags will now prepare for the ITA Regionals in Knoxville, Tennessee. IU Indy will travel to Tennessee for the six-day tournament starting on Oct. 16.
