FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The IU Indianapolis men's and women's cross country teams will head to Fort Wayne on Saturday (Sept. 20) to compete in the Rumble in the Fort, hosted by Purdue Fort Wayne at Mastodon Cross Country Course. The same site will host the Horizon League Championships later this Fall. IU Indy will compete against a largely in-state field as Butler, Green Bay, Manchester, Milwaukee, Purdue Fort Wayne, Trine, Wright State and 3 Rivers Racing Elite are slated to compete.
The meet will begin with the women's 6K at 10:00 a.m., followed by the men's 8K at 10:45 a.m.
Both teams began the year at IU's Sam Bell Invitational on Aug. 29, but will get a look at more of their rosters on Saturday.
Nick Cook was the men's team's top performer at IU to open the season, running a 6K time of 19:08.40 and
Jay Pillai was next in line at 19:34.97.
Cameron Smith (19:45.82) and
Carter Schorr (19:45.98) rounded out the finishers but the Jaguars didn't factor in the team scoring with fewer than five finishing the race.
On the women's side, true freshman
Riley Flynn paced the team with a time of 14:57.65 in the season opening 4K while
Hannah Robbins,
Carina Alanis,
Emily Bruns and
Kaylynn Bedel concluded the top five.
