JAGUARS TO FACE NOTRE DAME ON SUNDAY NIGHT

Jaguars to take on the Falcons at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday night (Aug. 21)

8/23/2025 3:47:00 PM

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The IU Indianapolis men's soccer team will continue its brutal early season schedule on Sunday (Aug. 24) as the Jaguars take on Notre Dame at 7:30 p.m. inside UND's Alumni Stadium. The Jags will open the campaign with five straight road matches, largely against perennial powerhouse programs.

Head coach Sid van Druenen's squad opened the season with a 1-1 draw at Bowling Green earlier this week. Senior transfer Youri Keijser tallied a goal in his IU Indy debut and senior goalkeeper Cameron Maung-Maung was strong between the pipes with four saves. The Jaguars played just three reserves as Christian Nielsen came off the bench with 65 minutes and an assist on Keijser's score.

The Jaguars outshot BGSU 17-16 behind Keijser's team-high four attempts. Sophomore defender Stan Klaver had three shots and junior attacker Jose Antonio Herrera had two shots on goal. Defensively, Brady Horn and Jago Thompson-Roberts authored a masterclass from their center back spots in the road result.

QUOTABLE
"Mixed feelings, I'll be honest, and I think the guys share the same thought. I think if we isolate the performance from the result, we're very, very happy with the performance. I thought the guys competed in a very, very tough environment. I think we won a lot of the physical battles. I think we outshot the opponent and I don't think we did that at all last year, so I think a lot of positives," van Druenen said after the BGSU match.

SCOUTING NOTRE DAME
Notre Dame opened the season with a 1-1 road draw at Michigan on Thursday night and went 7-5-5 a season ago. Diego Ochoa scored Notre Dame's goal off an Ian Shaul assist in the opener while Blake Kelly played all 90 minutes in net, making three saves. Notre Dame was outshot 13-4 in the opener, but yielded just four shots on goal.

INSIDE THE SERIES
IU Indy is 0-4-1 all-time against Notre Dame and lost to the Irish 5-0 back in 2023. The lone result against the Irish was a 0-0 double overtime draw back in 2000 in Indianapolis. IU Indy has lost all four meetings in South Bend.

UP NEXT
The Jaguars will travel to Louisville on Friday, Aug. 29 for a 6:00 p.m. kickoff.
