FOUR JAGUARS NAMED XC / TRACK AND FIELD ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT

All four honored based on their work in competition and in the classroom

INDIANAPOLIS - Four members of the IU Indianapolis men's and women's cross country and track and field teams have been named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Teams for their work in competition and in the classroom. On the men's side, Nate Kaiser, Nolan King and Luke Shappell were honored while Ellie Cates was recognized from the women's program.

In order to be honored, an individual must have a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (GPA) and have earned a top-50 regional finish, either in cross country or track. 

Cates maintained a 3.94 grade point average and ranked 27th in the region in the 10,000m event, having clocked a time of 35:21.35 during the outdoor season. 

Kaiser was pursuing a certificate in nutrition with a 3.55 GPA. He ranked 33rd in the region in the 10,000m event, having run 29:57.71 during the outdoor season. 

King has a 3.96 GPA while majoring in tourism, convention and events management (TCEM). He closed the outdoor season ranked No. 39 in the region in the 3,000m steeplechase with a best time of 9:32.47. 

Shappell has a 3.86 grade point average while majoring in biology. He ranked 40th in the region in the 1,500m event with a best time of 3:47.42 during the outdoor season and ranked 45th in the region in the 800m event at 1:52.19.
