LAFFOON LEADS THE WAY ON DAY TWO OF #HLTF OUTDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS

Sophomore Paige Laffoon finishes fourth in the heptathlon and breaks program's 100m hurdle record

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Sophomore Paige Laffoon continued her brilliant weekend as the IU Indianapolis women's track and field team was back in action at the #HLTF Outdoor Championships at Youngstown State on Saturday (May 10). 

On the heels of a fourth-place finish in the heptathlon, Laffoon broke the program record in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.37 seconds to begin the evening session. Journey Howard just missed a personal best with a time of 14.84 seconds and Pa'Shence Purnell ran 15.50 seconds. In the 400m event, Jahzara McAlister just missed a personal best by running 58.62 seconds. 

The 800m event saw Wini Barnett clock a time of 2:16.82 to lead the team entries and Julianna Crow crossed at 2:21.75. Grace Bragg spun a time of 2:22.91 in the event. 

Purnell notched a personal best time of 1:06.19 in the 400m hurdles to place 11th in the prelims while Howard was just behind her at 1:07.00. McAlister's busy evening finished with a time of 25.64 in the 200m event. 

Freshman Ella Colclesser finished tenth in just her second career 3,000m steeplechase, posting a time of 11:36.22, taking 28 seconds off her prior best mark. 

Earlier in the day, Laffoon finished off her fourth-place finish in the heptathlon with an all conditions record of 4,992 points. She was second among the field in long jump with a mark of 5.72m (18' 9.25'') and fourth in javelin at 31.71m (104' 0''). She closed the day with a personal best time in the 800m, crossing at 2:25.56, just eight points shy of 5,000. Hoard also had a strong effort with 4,180 points, placing 11th overall. 

She had a best long jump of 4.81m (15' 9.5'') followed by a javelin throw of 26.66m (87' 5''). She finished her day with an 800m run of 2:39.26. 

Freshman Jade Wiese closed her season, just missing the finals of the long jump with a best mark of 4.94m (16' 2.5'') on her only countable effort of the day. Junior Skyler Sichting competed in shot put for just the third time this season, registering a best mark of 8.76m (28' 9'') on her final attempt of the day. 

The Jaguars sit in tenth-place in the standings with five points while host YSU has a decisive lead atop the standings with 101.5 points. 

The bulk of the meet's points will be awarded on Sunday as the final day consists primarily of finals and two relays. Field events will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday and track events will start at noon.
