Sophomore Journey Howard matches her personal best in high jump and sets new PR in 100 hurdles

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Sophomore Journey Howard helped lead the way as the IU Indianapolis women's track and field team turned in nine personal bests at the Jim Freeman / Clark Wood Invitational at the University of Louisville this weekend. Howard matched her personal best in the high jump and set a new personal best in the 100m hurdles to key the squad. 

On Friday (Apr. 25), three Jaguars set new personal bests in the 800m event, paced by Wini Barnett at 2:16.25. Behind her, Ellie Cates ran 2:16.78 and freshman Julianna Crow finished at 2:21.36. Grace Bragg also posted a new personal best time of 2:21.44. Freshman Jahzara McAlister led the team's 200m entries on Friday at 25.28 seconds and Paige Laffoon ran a time of 26.61 seconds. 

Laffoon led the long jump entries on Friday with a best mark of 5.46m (17' 11'') and Jade Wiese jumped 4.97m (16' 3.75''). Meanwhile, Howard's high jump mark of 1.60m (5' 3'') also came on Friday and Skyler Sichting registered a new personal best in the shot put, throwing 9.00m (29' 6.5''). 

On Saturday, Howard paced the four entries in the 100m hurdles with a personal best time of 14.83 seconds while Laffoon ran 15.09 seconds. Morgan Hoard crossed at 15.61 seconds and Pa'Shence Purnell ran a time of 16.16 seconds. Purnell was tops among the 400m hurdles entrants at 1:07.22 and Howard ran 1:09.39. 

McAlister clocked a time of 58.47 seconds in the 400m event as the team's lone entry. 

In the 1,500m event, Cates doubled back with a time of 4:39.53 and Bragg finished at 4:49.10. Hannah Robbins ran a personal best time of 18:37.38 in the 5,000m event and Julynne Spidell just missed a personal best time of 19:28.85. Rookie Ella Colclesser made her collegiate debut in the 3,000m steeplechase with a personal best time of 12:04.80. 

The javelin saw Shelby McGee throw a personal best mark of 33.58m (110' 2'') in her lone event of the weekend. 

The quartet of McAlister, Purnell, Crow and Barnett ran a season-best 4x400 relay time of 4:00.91 to close out the day. 

The Jaguars will return to action at the Horizon League Championships in Youngstown, Ohio, on May 9-11.
