TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The IU Indianapolis women's track and field squad will divide efforts this weekend, participating at both the Wake Forest Invitational and Indiana State's Gibson Invitational. Four Jaguars will run against a tough field at Wake Forest while the remainder of the team will compete closer to home at Indiana State.
At Wake Forest,
Ellie Cates and
Julie Smith will compete in the 5,000m event on Thursday (Apr. 17), chasing marks as the outdoor season winds down. Cates comes in having run 17:24.37 and Smith owns a personal best time of 17:45.72. On Friday (Apr. 18),
Grace Bragg will run the 1,500m event and
Wini Barnett will compete in the 800m race.
At Indiana State,
Morgan Hoard and
Paige Laffoon will compete in multis on Thursday and Friday. Laffoon holds the school record with 4,353 points while Hoard is third on the program's all-time list with 4,079 points.
The remainder of the squad will compete on Saturday in Terre Haute. Sophomore
Journey Howard is coming off a personal best effort in the 400m hurdles and also matched the school record in the high jump, clearing 1.60m (5' 3'') at Ball State last weekend. Freshman
Jahzara McAlister clocked a personal best 400m time of 58.21 at that meet while
Sa'Mone Winters ran a time of 12.36 in the 100m dash. Another freshman,
Mary Fritch, spun a heat win in the 1,500m with a personal best time of 4:58.49, winning by nearly two seconds.
