FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The IU Indianapolis women's track and field squad rounded out the #HLTF Indoor Championships on Sunday (Mar. 2) inside Lutheran Health Fieldhouse on the Purdue Fort Wayne campus.
The Jaguars' 4x400 relay team of
Jahzara McAlister,
Wini Barnett,
Julianna Crow and
Modupe Awosanya added to the team point total with a seventh-place finish to conclude the day's events. The group posted a time of 3:58.84, just missing a heat win.
"The highlight of the weekend was Paige's runner-up in the pent. She and Coach Seward have been putting in a lot of work this past year and it was great to see everything come together," head coach
Antonio McDaniel said. "We missed a lot of opportunities to make finals this weekend and will need to do a better job taking advantage of those opportunities this outdoor season."
In the mile,
Julie Smith was the team's top performer with a time of 5:14.21, placing third in her heat and 13th overall.
Grace Bragg finished at 5:22.24 in the same race. The 3,000m race saw
Ellie Cates finish 13th overall at 10:13.53 and freshman
Ella Colclesser ran a personal best time of 10:31.89.
Hannah Robbins finished her race in a time of 10:48.69.
Sophomore
Journey Howard just missed scoring in the high jump with a best mark of 1.58m (5' 2.25''), leaving her tied for tenth.
Paige Laffoon cleared 1.53m (5' 0.25'') and
Jada-Marie Davis finished at 1.48m (4' 10.25'').
Junior
Morgan Hoard fared well in the shot put with a best throw of 10.94m (35' 10.75'') on her second throw of the day.
The Jaguars are slated to open the outdoor season at the WashU. Distance Carnival on Mar. 27.
