Box Score LAKELAND, Fla. - The IU Indianapolis women's tennis team dropped a tight match to kickoff their Spring Break trip on Monday (Mar. 17), falling to Rider, 4-3. The Jaguars opened by capturing the doubles point, but were defeated in four of the six singles matches in the loss.
Elle Kotre and
Calli Sokolowski earned an emphatic 6-2 win at No. 1 singles while
Emma Dell and
Hanan Awale were victorious at No. 3, 6-2. The duo of
Chloe Bailey and
Grace Lampman held a 4-3 lead when the doubles point was clinched.
Singles was similarly tight with the Jags earning wins at the Nos. 4 and 5 spots. Sokolowski defeated Daniela Naves 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) while Lampman cruised to a 6-1, 6-3 win in the No. 5 position. The decisive point came at the No. 1 spot as Rider's Laila Fishman outlasted Dell in a 6-7 (7-3), 6-4, 7-6 (7-2) come-from-behind victory.
Rider improved to 5-5 on the season while the Jaguars dipped to 1-6.
The Jags are slated to take on Bethune-Cookman on Wednesday (Mar. 19) in Daytona Beach, Fla.
