BOILING SPRINGS, NC - The IU Indy softball team fell in back-to-back games on day two of the Spring in the Springs invitational in Boiling Springs, North Carolina.
Morgan Gilbert and
Kennedy Cowan led the way for the Jags with each totaling four hits and one run in the two games combined.

In the opening game, Stony Brook took the early lead and did not look back as they defeated IU Indy, 6-1.

The Seawolves were held scoreless in the first inning but jumped on the board in the second inning, scoring one run, 1-0. Stony Brook scored an additional four runs in the third and fourth innings combined, 5-0. The Jags erased the shutout with a
Reese Rosenbaum foul out to right field which scored
Corinne Martz.

Stony Brook scored an additional run in the seventh off a single to right field, 6-1.
Lily Roush (L, 1-5) took the loss after giving up five runs in 3.1 innings.
Alexa Holman came in to relieve Roush, giving up just one run with four strikeouts in 3.2 innings. Â

Game two was tied at 1-1 from the first inning until the sixth inning as Gardner-Webb took the lead and eventually the victory, 2-1. IU Indy jumped on the board first with a run in the top of the first inning off a
Molly Kable single down the right field line which scored Gilbert. Gardner-Webb then responded in the bottom half of the first with an RBI single down the left field line to tie the game at 1-1. The game was scoreless until the bottom of the sixth frame.

Gardner-Webb scored the game winning run off a single up the middle giving them a one run lead. The Bulldogs remained strong defensively in the top of the seventh holding the Jags off, sealing the 2-1 victory.
Clara Phariss (L, 0-4) threw all six innings facing 26 batters with one strikeout.

IU Indy will finish the Spring in the Springs Invitational tomorrow, Sunday, March 2 as they face Stony Brook at 10:00 AM.
