ZIETLOW, RARIDEN, AND OTERO EARN INDIVIDUAL TITLES ON DAY THREE OF #HLSD CHAMPIONSHIPS

Otero set a new Horizon League Championship record in the men’s 1-meter dive

INDIANAPOLIS – The IU Indy swim and dive teams collected three individual titles and one new Horizon League Championship record on day three of the #HLSD Championships. Emmaleigh Zietlow defended her title in the women's 200 free while Nathan Rariden became the new men's 200 free champion. Sebastian Otero remained undefeated during his Horizon League Championships run with the 1-meter title.
 
In the opening event of the night, Lillian Brandt earned a podium finish with third place in women's 100 fly at a time of 54.93. Dani Stemper swam in the consolation finals, finishing in 11th. Freshman Hugo Arteaga then swam in the men's championship final of the 100 fly, finishing in sixth with a time of 47.82. Isaac Wilson (13th – 48.68), Max Gerke (15th – 48.97) and David Niemiec (16th – 49.12) each swam in the consolation finals.
 
Moving on to the 400 IM, Addy Hirsbrunner represented the Jags in the women's championship final, finishing in fifth with a time of 4:28.55. Kaylee Dexter took 11th with a time of 4:34.42.
 
The Jags put three in the men's 400 IM consolation. Turner Long took ninth with a time of 3:53.71 while Zach Drotar earned 11th at 3:59.13. Luke Dibley followed in 12th with a time of 3:59.17.
 
Emmaleigh Zietlow then took to the pool to defend her title in the women's 200 free. With a time of 1:46.95 just .22 off of the record, Zietlow earned the 200 free title. The Jags then swept the 200 free titles with Nathan Rariden taking down the former champ, Jonas Cantrell in the men's 200 free. Rariden clocked a time of 1:35.41 to earn the gold.
 
Will Gorman earned 11th in the 200 free with a time of 1:38.55 while Youssef Magdy took 14th with a time of 1:39.49.
 
In the women's 100 breast Luca McGee earned fourth with a time of 1:03.81. Vicky Surdyka placed sixth with a time of 1:03.89 and Ali Fitzgerald earned eighth at 1:04.76. Morgan Fausto swam in the consolation finals, finishing in 11th. On the men's side, Zach Drotar also placed 11th with a time of 55.94.
 
Next up was the 100 back. Addy Hirsbrunner finished in sixth with a time of 56.74. On the men's side the Jags put three in the championship final. Grayson Tidwell finished in fifth with a time of 48.84, Ben Kimmel took seventh (49.39) and Jack Gallob placed eighth (50.01).
 
Sebastian Otero, Adam Schmehl and Blake Vanderjeugdt then took to the diving well. Otero broke the 1-meter record earlier in the day during prelims with a score of 399.05. He then broke his own record to defend his 1-meter title with a score of 414.15. Vanderjeugdt finished in third with a score of 347.85 and Schmehl took fourth with a score of 334.45.
 
After the new Horizon League record in the 1-meter, the Jags turned back to the swimming pool with the 400 medley relay. The women's team of Hirsbrunner, Surdyka, Brandt and Zietlow took fourth with a time of 3:46.05. The men's team of Tidwell, Drotar, Arteaga and Rariden also took fourth with a time of 3:17.13.
 
After day three of competition, the men's team follows behind Oakland (656 points) in second with 450 points. The women's team ranks fourth with 326.5 points.
 
Day four starts with prelims at 10:00 AM.
