INDIANAPOLIS – The IU Indy men's and women's swim and dive team kicked off the 2025 Horizon League Championships today with two Horizon League records. Sebastian Otero defended his title in the men's 3-meter dive with a new Horizon League Championship record of 445.75.
 
In the opening event of the day, the women's swim team secured a podium finish in third. The 200 medley relay team of Addy Hirsbrunner, Vicky Surdyka, Lillian Brandt and Luca McGee took third with a time of 1:41.15.
 
The men's team then followed with a fifth place finish in the 200 medley relay. The team of Grayson Tidwell, Zach Drotar, Hugo Arteaga and Luca Eckert earned fifth with a time of 1:28.67.
 
Next up was the men's 3-meter diving final. IU Indy put three Jags in the final with Sebastian Otero earning the number one seed. The two-time 3-meter champion defended his title with a Horizon League Championship record of 445.75, smashing the previous record of 409.40 set in 2006.
 
Adam Schmehl followed in second place with a score of 362.05 while Blake Vanderjeugdt finished in fourth with a score of 323.45.
 
After an exciting diving performance, the Jags moved back to swimming with the 800 free relay. The women's relay team of Emmaleigh Zietlow, McGee, Brandt and Hirsbrunner took the silver with a time of 7:22.11
 
The men's team then took second with a time of 6:28.35. Nathan Rariden led the relay off, putting them in fantastic position with a new 200 free Horizon League Championship record time of 1:35.67. Will Gorman, Jack Gallob and Isaac Wilson joined Rariden to finish in second.
 
After the three events, the men's team sits at the top of the standings with 114 points while the women's team is tied for second with Youngstown State at 66 points.
