INDIANAPOLIS - The IU Indianapolis women's track and field team's mid-distance crew highlighted a small group of Jaguar athletes competing inside Fall Creek Pavilion on day two of the Midwest Classic on Saturday (Feb. 1).
Wini Barnett paced the team's three entries in the 800m event near the end of the day to key the team's efforts.
Barnett raced her way to a heat win in a time of 2:17.26, just more than a second off her personal best effort. Behind her, freshman
Aubrey Nowaskie spun a personal best time of 2:18.07 in her first collegiate 800m race and fellow rookie
Julianna Crow also ran a new personal best. Crow crossed at 2:20.09, taking five seconds off her previous best effort.
"Aubrey and Julianna are who got me through that race. Julianna with a PR in the first heat and Aubrey quite literally pushing me to go faster during our heat," Barnett said.
Earlier in the day, junior
Morgan Hoard just missed her own school record in the shot put with a best throw of 10.74m (35' 3''), just more than two inches shy of her prior best mark. At day's end,
Julynne Spidell just missed a new personal best in the 3,000m event with a time of 11:22.58. Her time was less than two seconds off her previous best.
The Jaguars will compete inside Fall Creek Pavilion one more time next week when they participate in the Fairgrounds Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 8, beginning at 10:30 a.m.
