CLEVELAND, Ohio – IU Indy rolled to its ninth sweep of the season Friday night, defeating Cleveland State in straight sets (25–10, 25–16, 25–18) at Woodling Gym. The Jaguars hit an impressive .343 as a team and improved to 15–10 overall and 9–4 in Horizon League play.
The Jaguars came out firing, jumping to a 10–1 lead behind strong serving from
Jordyn Pax and back-to-back kills from
Ninah Miranda. IU Indy committed just one error in the set and hit .389 as a team, with
Jillian Tippmann and
Morgan Ostrowski leading a balanced attack.
Cleveland State stayed closer early in the second, but a mid-set serving run from
Grace Purichia helped IU Indy pull away. Tippmann was nearly unstoppable, tallying several kills on perfect sets from Purichia, while
Elle Patterson and Miranda added key points to close the frame.
The Vikings battled to seven ties in the third set, but IU Indy's depth prevailed down the stretch. Pax delivered two service aces, Miranda capped another strong offensive night, and Tippmann sealed the sweep with her 11th kill of the match.
Tippmann paced the Jaguars with 11 kills on .524 hitting, while Miranda added nine kills and two aces. Purichia dished out 33 assists and added seven digs, and libero
Laura Roeder led the defense with 20 digs.
IU Indy and Cleveland State will close out the weekend with a 2:00 PM match tomorrow, Saturday, Nov. 1.
