SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The IU Indianapolis men's and women's cross country teams will return to action on Friday (Oct. 3) when the Jaguars participate in Notre Dame's Joe Piane Invitational at Burke Golf Course. Members of the men's and women's teams will compete in the Open Race at 11:10 a.m. with the women's varsity entries slated for the Gold 5K at 11:50 a.m. The men's varsity entries will conclude the day's events in the Gold 8K at 12:30 p.m.
The last time out, the men's team finished third of seven teams at the Rumble in the Fort, paced by
Luke Shappell's 8K time of 25:08.3 and redshirt freshman
Nick Cook's 25:15.7. Other members of the team's top-5 finishers included
Joey LaPatra (25:34.8),
Riley Nixon (25:38.0) and
Joey Ashman (25:49.6). Coming off a strong performances at that meet, true freshmen
Eli Oetken and
Isaac Riggs will make their varsity debuts this week.
The women's team placed fifth overall as
Julie Smith finished fifth overall in a 6K time of 21:38.3. Sophomore
Ella Colclesser placed 18th at 22:24.0 and the top-5 also included
Grace Bragg (22:40.2),
Carina Alanis (23:05.3) and
Hannah Robbins (23:10.1). The Jaguars are expected to receive a jolt with the return of
Brooke Neal from injury to make her season debut this weekend.
