FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Sophomore Paige Laffoon just missed breaking her own school record in the pentathlon at the Mastodon Invitational on Friday (Jan. 17), placing third among 12 athletes competing in the events with 3,409 points. Her entered competition owning the school record, having tallied 3,413 in the pentathlon earlier this season.  

Laffoon notched a pair of personal bests to start her day, running 9.18 seconds in the 60m hurdles, followed by a high jump mark of 1.63m (5' 4.25''). She finished her day with a season-best time of 2:39.72 in the 800m run. In between, she had a throw of 9.82m (32' 2.5'') in the shotput and best jump of 5.40m (17' 8.5'') in the long jump. 

Junior Morgan Hoard placed seventh overall with a season-best 2,823 points. 

She opened with a 9.48 second effort in the 60m hurdles and then posted a mark of 1.36m (4' 5.5'') in the high jump. She was third among all competitors in the shotput with a best throw of 10.50m (34' 5.5'') and then jumped 4.87m (15' 11.75'') in the long jump. She closed her day with a season-best 800m time of 2:51.00. 

Milwaukee's Anna Szepieniec won the event with 3,746 points, followed by teammate Kallie Volk's 3,431. 

The Jaguars will continue a busy weekend on Saturday (Jan. 18) when they compete at the Hoosier Horsepower Classic at the Fall Creek Pavilion at the Indiana State Fairgrounds.
