IU INDY FALLS IN FINAL MATCH OF BELLARMINE CLASSIC

Kate White led the Jaguar attack with 12 kills

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The IU Indy volleyball team fell to UAB in the final match of the Bellarmine Classic, 3-1. Sophomore Kate White led the IU Indy attack with 12 kills while the Jags collected 12 service aces as a team.
 
UAB (3-2) came out hot, taking set one 25-13. Despite strong serving, the Jags couldn't defend the Blazer attack as UAB hit a strong .520 percent.
 
After falling in the opening set, the Jags extended the match with a set two victory, 25-20. A quick kill from Carly Doros helped the Jags start off set two with a bang, followed by a service ace from Addie Evans. IU Indy and UAB traded the lead back and forth until the Jags went on a five point run to finally take a solid 23-19 lead. After back-to-back attack errors from the Blazers, the Jags secured the set two win, 25-20.
 
In the third set, the Jags fell behind as UAB went on an 8-1 run early in the set taking a 10-5 lead. Despite late attack errors from the Blazers and a kill from White closed the gap to 23-19, UAB closed out the third set with a 25-19 mark.
 
In a must-win set for the Jags, IU Indy took the lead in the fourth set at 5-3 with a kill from White. UAB quickly tied it up a 5-5, followed by several lead changes between the two teams. The back-and-forth race continued until a final tie at 21-21. Three miscues from the Jags and a kill from UAB's Jorda Crook gave the Blazers a 25-21 set win for the match victory.
 
White led the attack with 12 kills while Ava Harris and Elle Patterson each tallied eight kills. Evans and Harris each added three service aces while Sidney Veatch added two. Doros and White stuffed four blocks each while Grace Purichia led the Jags in assists with 30. Patterson led the defense with eight digs.
 
IU Indy closes out the Bellarmine Classic with a 1-2 mark for an overall season record of 3-4. The Jags will next travel to our country's capital of Washington, D.C. for the DC Showdown. They will face Georgetown and George Washington on Friday. Sept. 13 followed by a match against Rider on Saturday, Sept. 14.
