ROCHESTER, Mich. – The IUPUI women's basketball team concluded the regular season on Saturday afternoon with a massive win over Oakland, 92-71. The Jags shot 60.8 percent from the floor to secure the 21-point win.
IUPUI was led by two 20-point performances.
Jazmyn Turner led all scorers with 23 points while
Katie Davidson added 21 points. Oakland had three in double-figures with Markyia McCormick leading the Golden Grizzlies with 17 points.
Despite Oakland sinking the first basket, the Jags wasted little time taking a 17-6 lead after a 10-0 run. IUPUI shot 100 percent from three, going 4-for-4 from behind the arc to extend their lead to 26-15 at the end of the first quarter.
The Jags kept their shooting hot, doubling their total with 26 points in the second quarter. IUPUI shot 41.7 percent in the second quarter while holding the Golden Grizzlies to just 25 percent to take a 20-point lead over Oakland at 52-32.
Coming out after the half, Oakland cut the deficit to 15, outscoring the Jags 18-13 in the third quarter but it didn't make a difference as IUPUI secured the win in the fourth quarter. The Jags once again shot 100 percent from three, going 3-for-3 to put the game away at 92-71.
Overall, the Jags shot 60.8 percent from the floor and 62.5 percent from behind the arc while holding the Golden Grizzlies to just 32.5 percent from the floor and 22.2 percent from three.
Turner led the Jags with 23 points and six rebounds while Davidson added 21 points and a team-high three steals.
Jaela Johnson also added 15 points and five assists while
Tahlia Walton totaled 12 points.
The Jags finished the regular season in tenth in the Horizon League and will next face the number seven seed on Tuesday, March 5.
