MURRAY, Ky. – The IUPUI softball team closed out the Velvet Milkman Classic hosted by Murray State on a high note, earning an 8-0 victory Sunday afternoon. Alexa Holman earned the shutout win on the mound for the Jags.

The Jags jumped on the board in the first inning. Kendal Calvert doubled to left field then Paige McPhearson followed with a double to score Calvert, 1-0. After a scoreless second inning, the Jags added five in the bottom of the third inning.

Kelli Riordan hit a leadoff single in the third to get things started. Rachael Gregory followed with a single to put runners on first and second with no outs. Calvert loaded the bases with a bunt single then McPhearson reached on an error to allow Riordan score from third.

Still with no outs, Holman singled to center field, scoring Gregory. Kayla Freiberg reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Calvert followed by a fielder's choice from Kinsey Pfeiffer to score Emma Wheatley.

With the 6-0 lead and a scoreless fourth inning, the Jags sealed the run rule victory in the fifth inning. A wild pitch from the Toledo Rockets scored Holman. Then an error on the same play scored Isabelle Waggner to walk it off in run rule fashion, 8-0.
