FORT MYERS, Fla. – The IU Indianapolis women's basketball team struggled offensively in the second half, falling to East Tennessee State 54-41 on Friday afternoon to open the FGCU Holiday Classic.
The Jaguars (1-10) came out strong to start the game, hitting a three-pointer early to get on the board. However, ETSU (8-5) quickly found their rhythm and outscored IU Indy 17-13 in the first quarter, taking a four-point lead into the second period.
In the second quarter, the Jaguars tightened up defensively, limiting the Buccaneers to just eight points. A late jumper by
Camron Blank with 19 seconds left in the half gave IU Indy a 26-25 lead heading into the break.
Coming out of halftime, the Jaguars' offense went cold. IU Indy managed just seven points in the third quarter, while ETSU capitalized with a 17-7 run to reclaim the lead. The Buccaneers continued to hold the momentum in the fourth, holding the Jaguars to just eight points and sealing the 54-41 win.
The Jaguars shot just 29.4 percent from the field in the loss.
Nevaeh Foster led IU Indy with 14 points, including three three-pointers, and grabbed nine rebounds.
Shania Nichols-Vannett added 11 points, while
Alexa Hocevar chipped in with nine points and five rebounds.
The Jaguars will next play tomorrow, Saturday, Dec. 21, when they face North Carolina A&T at 1:00 PM.
