FORT MYERS, Fla. – The IU Indy women's basketball team fell in their final FGCU Holiday Classic game to North Carolina A&T on Saturday afternoon, 62-53. Despite holding the lead for the majority of the game, the Jaguars faltered down the stretch as the Aggies capitalized on a strong fourth quarter to secure the victory.
Nevaeh Foster led the Jags offensively, finishing with 17 points and four rebounds.
Faith Stinson chipped in with 10 points and eight rebounds, while
Shania Nichols-Vannett added eight points and seven rebounds in the loss.
The Jaguars came out strong in the first quarter, outscoring the Aggies 18-15. IU Indy shot an impressive 53.8 percent from the field, while holding North Carolina A&T to just 37.5 percent shooting. However, the offense cooled off in the second quarter, as the Jaguars shot just 36.4 percent, allowing the Aggies to rally and tie the game at 30-30 heading into halftime.
Coming out of the break, IU Indy's defense stepped up, limiting North Carolina A&T to just 10 points in the third quarter. This defensive effort allowed the Jaguars to take a slim 42-40 lead into the final period. However, fatigue seemed to catch up with IU Indy in the fourth, as the Aggies took control, outscoring the Jags 22-11 to claim the victory.
With the loss, IU Indy drops to 1-11 on the season. The Jaguars will look to bounce back when they return to the Jungle on December 28, hosting Youngstown State at 2:00 PM.
