INDIANAPOLIS – Three different Jaguars tallied double-digit points in their loss to the reigning Horizon League champs, Cleveland State on Saturday evening, 90-58.
Katie Davidson,
Abby Wolterman and
Jazmyn Turner all scored in the double digits, but it wasn't enough to take down the Vikings as CSU capitalized on turnovers scoring 34 points off Jaguars errors.
Cleveland State (17-3, 8-1 HL) was paced by two 20-point performances. Mickayla Perdue totaled 22 points while Colbi Maples added 20. The Jaguars outrebounded the Vikings 34 to 29 but Cleveland State outplayed the Jags in nearly every other aspect.
The Vikings jumped out to a 14-4 lead and held the Jags to just four points until the 4:15 mark.
Katie Davidson reentered the game and scored seven points to help bring IUPUI within four points after the first quarter.
IUPUI stayed within seven to eight points most of the second quarter until the last four minutes when the Vikings inched away. Cleveland State went on a 10-3 run to extend their lead to 44-30 at halftime.
Despite cutting the gap by one in the third quarter, outscoring the Vikings 21-20, Cleveland State's defense put a stop to the Jags momentum. They held IUPUI to just seven points in the final quarter while totaling 26 on their side of the court.
Junior Davidson closed with 17 points and both Wolterman and Turner added 12 points apiece. Turner led the team in rebounds with six while Davidson added five. Turner and
Tahlia Walton each totaled four assists.
