INDIANAPOLIS – The IUPUI volleyball team fell to the Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons on Saturday night in four sets, 3-1. Freshman Maia Long led the Jaguar attack with 13 kills.
 
In the opening set, the Jags held close to the lead but the Mastodons went on a 11-1 run to close out the set, 25-17. Purdue Fort Wayne's attackers were efficient at the net hitting .440 in the first set while the Jags hit just .121.
 
Once again the Jags couldn't get their attacks to fall as they hit just .065 in the second set falling 25-15. With the Mastodons taking a two set lead and the match on the line, the Jags fought back in the third set. IUPUI outhit the Mastodons 14-9 with a hitting percentage of .407.
 
In the fourth set, the Jags were within three of the lead but once again, the Mastodons took some momentum going on a 6-1 run. IUPUI couldn't come back from the deficit as they fell in the fourth and final set, 25-18.
 
Freshman Long led in kills with 13 while Morgan Ostrowski earned a .438 hitting percentage with nine kills. Grace Purichia led the way in assists with 31 while libero Addie Evans collected 10 digs followed by Brooke Phillips with nine digs.
 
The Jags are now 6-10 on the season and 0-5 in conference play. They return to the Jungle next weekend for back-to-back #HLVB matches when they host Robert Morris on Friday, October 6 and Youngstown State on Saturday, October 7.
