INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI women's soccer team will embark on week two of #HLWSOC play this week when the Jaguars host Detroit Mercy on Thursday (Sept. 21) and travel to Youngstown State on Sunday (Sept. 24). The Jaguars enter the week unbeaten in their past five outings and riding two straight draws to open Horizon League play.
The Jaguars (6-2-2, 0-0-2 HL) opened Horizon League play with a 1-1 draw at Northern Kentucky before returning home to play Cleveland State to a 2-2 draw on Sunday. The Jaguars enter this week ranked No. 7 in the Horizon League standings, having captured two points through two games.
Individually, senior
Emma Antoine (2 goals, 7 assists) and freshman
Caroline Kelley (4 goals, 2 assists) lead the IUPUI attack while 11 different players have tallied at least one goal. Sophomore
Kailyn Smith anchors the defense, having played a team-high 860 minutes along the back line. Freshman
Emily Tobin is second on the team with 743 minutes played and freshmen have accounted for 42 starts through the midpoint of the season. Kelley and Tobin have started all 10 matches while
Shannon Ott has started eight times and
Katie Hoog has started seven.
In goal, junior
Ashton Kudlo has a 1.04 goals against average and .814 save percentage in her 10 appearances and owns a 5-1-2 record with two shutouts.
The Jaguars are 4-1-1 at Carroll Stadium this season with the lone loss coming to SIUE in non-conference play.
SCOUTING DETROIT MERCY: Detroit Mercy enters the week at 3-4-3 overall and 1-1 in Horizon League play. The Titans opened Horizon League play with a 2-1 win over Youngstown State before falling to Milwaukee by a 2-0 score. Karsen Murray (3 goals) and Gabby Ketola (2 goals, 3 assists) lead the Titans' attack while Jazmine Scott has been the primary goalkeeper with a 1.53 goals against average and .707 save percentage in nine games. For the season, Detroit has scored 19 goals and yielded 19 goals.
SCOUTING YOUNGSTOWN STATE: YSU is 5-3-1 on the year with a 1-1 mark in Horizon League play. The Penguins lost to Detroit Mercy by a 2-1 score before rebounding to defeat Northern Kentucky, 2-1. Lianna Van Sice (2 goals, 3 assists) and Taylor Berry (1 goal, 3 assists) pace the Penguins offense, which has outscored opponents by a 12-9 margin this season. In goal, Brooklynn Kirkpatrick owns a 1.00 goals against average and .842 save percentage in her nine starts.
