JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - IUPUI freshman
Modupe Awosanya will continue her 2023 campaign this week when the rookie phenom participates in the NCAA East Regionals at the University of North Florida. She is the first athlete in the women's program's history to qualify for the NCAA Regionals. She will compete in the long jump on Thursday night (May 25) as one of 48 entrants seeking a spot in the NCAA Championships in Austin, Texas, next week. The top 12 from the East and West Regionals will qualify for the NCAA Championships.
Awosanya, who won the Horizon League long jump during both the indoor and outdoor seasons, enters the postseason ranked No. 37 in the East with a best mark of 6.22m (20' 5'') from the Gibson Invitational on Apr. 13. She jumped 6.19m (20' 3.75'') at the Horizon League Outdoor Championships, matching the league championship record that had stood for 10 years.
Awosanya was voted the 2023 Horizon League Alfreeda Goff Outdoor Athlete of the Year by the league's coaches this year and then collected Freshman of the Year for field events at the league championships. This outdoor season, she broke the program's records in the 100, 200 and long jump and participated on school record teams in both the 4x100 and 4x400 relays.
