MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The IUPUI women's track and field team closed out a successful Spring Break trip on Saturday (Mar. 18) with a strong showing at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational. The Jaguars broke the school record in the 4x100 relay on the meet's final day and added another individual runner-up finish to its total.

Ultimately, IUPUI finished the meet sixth in the team standings, having stacked up 40 points over three days.

The quartet of Modupe Awosanya, Karis Davis, Lillian Sebastian and Madelynn Denny reset the program's 4x100 record with a time of 47.94, shaving more than a full second off the prior best.

In the mile, Ellie Cates came up with a runner-up effort with a time of 5:04.67. Madison Fry finished ninth overall at 5:20.71 and Julie Smith was tenth at 5:21.13. In the 400m event, Davis spun a time of 58.63 and fellow freshman Reese McCuan ran a time of 59.94.

In the 400m hurdles, Jada-Marie Davis was 15th overall with a time of 1:09.18.

Earlier in the meet, Cates helped IUPUI win the 4x800 relay and Awosanya earned a runner-up finish in the long jump.

"I'm so glad we got to go to this fun meet and grow closer together," Cates said. "I'm also happy with the 4x800 and mile race that gave me a good confidence boost going into outdoor (season)."

The Jaguars will return to action on Mar. 31-Apr. 1 when they compete at the Oliver Nikoloff Invitational, hosted by Cincinnati.
